Failure To Launch Is A Real Thing: The Young Adult Living On My Couch Proves It

My husband and I rented Mathew Mcconaughey’s movie, “Failure To Launch” which was recommended by a friend as a good comedy—except we weren’t laughing. We had our own launch pad downstairs that doubled as a couch and was usually occupied by our young adult . It seems to be a common ailment as I have friends who are experiencing the same thing. Why are adolescents  living at home more and more? People say it’s the economy, but when we got married we struggled. We both worked and went to school and lived in an apartment so tiny we could do everything in one room. Our kitchen was often mistaken for a closet. It seems that children today are content with doing nothing and enjoy having their parents provide for them. I want to know where we went wrong.

The growing trend of the “failure to launch” generation is becoming more and more prominent in American households. Call Zion Educational Systems’ Family Advocates at (866) 471-8579 to speak to a professional who can ensure your child will be set up for success.

Where’s the launch button?

Just like the Staples, “That Was Easy” button parents want an easy way to fix the problem. Most situations didn’t happen overnight and with professional help families can figure out how to give their adolescent the skills and tools to get out on their own. Most children and adults do what they’re doing because it’s working for them. They are getting something out of it. Your child may enjoy the lack of responsibility, the availability of free food, and sleeping in. What he’s getting has to change or his behavior won’t. At Zion Educational Systems’ Family Advocates have helped families transition their kids from home to real life. Call (866) 471-8579 for more information.
