Types of Professionals At Residential Treatment Centers

Before parents can make a choice about treatment, they need to know about the types of professionals at residential treatment centers. Deciding to place your teen in a residential treatment center is a pivotal choice and in order to make the best choice you need to have all the information you can gather.

A facility that has achieved phenomenal results treating troubled teens with substance abuse issues may not be as well suited to treat a teen with sexual compulsivity issues. Expertise in one area does not necessarily transfer over to other areas. The types of professionals at residential treatment centers can vary from facility to facility. Zion Educational Systems can help you sort through the subtly confusing details to make sure you fully understand the different types of professionals at residential treatment centers.

The umbrella term ‘mental health counselor’ can be used to describe many different types of professionals at residential treatment centers, but it is also a job title unto itself. A mental health counselor will usually have an area of concentrated focus. Some mental health counselors may provide therapy and counseling to troubled teens with self-image issues, while a different mental health counselor may focus on sobriety issues. The job title does not necessarily confer postgraduate studies or degrees, though some people with that job title may be doctors or hold master’s degrees.

Other Types Of Professionals At Residential Treatment Centers

Of course there are also many types of professionals at residential treatment centers who must necessarily hold advanced degrees. Various clinicians, such as psychologists and psychiatrists will have completed postgraduate work. These types of professionals at residential treatment centers have usually designed programs or are engaged in more complex therapeutic exercises and explorations.

Zion Educational Systems is a resource for parents of troubled teens. If you would like to know more about the various types of professionals at residential treatment centers, please contact us for more information.
